I am prototyping a new product brought about by the loss of a brother firefighter Jeff Bowen. “EDM212”. This new tool will act as a flashing beacon that will mark an exit for firefighters or victims. It will have flashing LED strobes that can be seen through smoke or very low visibility. The power supply will last 2 hours plus. The box will be water proof and shock proof for fire ground operations. The box will hang from the hinge of a door and have the rescue rope tied off to it or can be Velcroed to the end of the ladder in a window to mark a second egress.

       Operation: Before entering the building secure the “Exit Marker” to your departments search rope bag. Once on the fire floor, turn the exit marker on and using the hinge hook supplied hang the exit marker and search rope on the middle hinge of the exit door in the hall or out side of the stairwell. Make sure the strobe box is in the room or hall way not in the stairwell. The strobe box must be placed low to be seen under the heavy smoke conditions. If you come across a second exit place a second EDM212 on that hinge also for a second means of egress. Testing to follow.
